My son has been a student of Ms.Ran Tao for around 7 years. She has been a wonderful teacher patiently guiding him in her gentle yet firm manner towards molding him into a better violin player. Ms.Ran not only focuses on basics such as posture, bow hold and fingering techniques to lay a strong foundation, she also adds value by talking about the showmanship aspects while performing in auditions or on stage. Ran is an extraordinary, classically trained musician who is able to convey her love and passion for music to her students. In her lessons she is both patient and inspiring as she works to give students the sound foundation which will allow them to grow and excel as their playing progresses. She is also incredibly patient "re-teaching" students who may have picked up "bad playing habits" from other classes such as poor bow holds, posture and fingering techniques. Ran also knows exactly when to take out her own violin to demonstrate something for her students and my daughter is overjoyed when she and Ran play a piece together. Ran was such a wonderful instructor and overall person. My son loved her and so did I. My 10 year old learned so much from Ran, because she has so much knowledge and passion for the violin. I just recently moved out of the area, so I am not within driving distance anymore to Ran. About two years ago, Ran came to Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center to do volunteer work for the Louis Armstrong Center for Music and Medicine. During her time with us, Ran has also taught violin lessons to musicians in our department. She has trained in the Suzuki method and works with children.
